I lead Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Artificial Intelligence Initiative, wherein I direct laboratory research, development and application of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) to solve problems of national importance. I seek to deliver foundational, scalable, and applied AI/ML capabilities supporting Oak Ridge National Laboratory's broad mission and provide world-class solutions in computer and computational science, neutron science, materials science, biology and health science, nuclear engineering, isotopes, manufacturing, energy, and climate science. My research focuses on the design and development of foundational and scalable data science algorithms to model and optimize complex systems in science domains. My research used some of the most advanced supercomputers in the world. I have (co-)authored more than 150 peer-reviewed research articles and given more than 100 research presentations, including 15 invited talks. Since 2018, I have secured several research findings, including the $2.5 million Department of Energy (DOE) Early Career Award, to start and run a research group focused on foundational, applied, and scalable scientific artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) at Argonne. I led and supervised my research group, which comprised ten members at different career levels. I have supervised more than 30 summer graduate students from 20 different universities. I possess a unique teaching experience by co-organizing and teaching more than 25 courses and tutorials for diverse groups. I have established successful collaborations with a wide range of researchers from the DOE labs, universities, and industry, which resulted in multiple joint projects, papers, and funded proposals. I am involved in multiple services, the professional community, and the sponsors. I am a strong advocate of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts and have participated in several DEI activities.
