A hands-on IT professional as well as an academician and a researcher in the health IT field. In 2002, I obtained my bachelor’s degree in the field of biomedical engineering and then I joined King Abdulazize Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as a clinical engineer. During this time, I was heavily involved in the implementation of many health IT systems at the medical city. During the year of 2007, I started working on implementing a comprehensive cardiac informatics solution that covered most of the cardiac specialties. A large component of the project was a comprehensive Business Intelligence (BI) system. The project was completed in the beginning of 2010 and shortly afterward, I moved to the United States to pursue my master’s and PhD degrees. In 2012, I completed my master’s degree in Biomedical Informatics at Nova Southeastern University, Florida, USA. I then pursued my PhD degree at the biomedical informatics PhD program at Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA, and completed the degree in 2015. In addition to the academic degrees, I have passed the exams of a number of professional certificates and became a Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist (MCTS), HL7 Certified on the HL7 Messaging Standard, and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certified. In 2012 and during my master’s degree study, I had been involved in a large Business Intelligence (BI) development and implementation project for Broward Regional Health Planning Council (BRHPC), Florida, USA. In 2015, I returned to Saudi Arabia and rejoined MNGHA as an associate executive director of the data and business intelligence department. In 2016, I was also appointed as an acting associate executive director for the enterprise medical systems department, which handles all health IT systems in the organization. Moreover, I have been given the title of joint-appointment assistant professor at the health informatics department in King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences.
