Bio

Ricardo Bessa received his Licenciado (five years) degree from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, Portugal (FEUP) in 2006 in Electrical and Computer Engineering. In 2008 he received his Master degree in Data Analysis and Decision Support Systems on the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto (FEP). He obtained his Ph.D. degree in the Doctoral Program in Sustainable Energy Systems (MIT Portugal) at FEUP in 2013. His research interests include wind power forecasting and integration in power system operations, electric vehicles, data mining and decision-making methods. He worked in several international projects such as the FP6 EU Project ANEMOS.plus, an international collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy, and FP7 Projects SuSTAINABLE and EvolvDSO. At the national level fully participated in developing a wind power forecasting system for the Portuguese wind farm owners. In parallel, he performed consulting work for several companies, such as the Hungarian Energy Office (HEO) or the Madeira electricity company (Empresa de Electricidade da Madeira – EEM).
