I'm an IBM Distinguished Engineer and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng CEng FIET) specialising in Hybrid Cloud Solutions and Quantum Computing. I have also had the honour of being the nineteenth President of IBM's Academy of Technology. During my 25 years of field experience as an IT Architect I provided technical leadership and engineering insight for some of IBM's most complex systems integration deliveries. Each of these systems were significant novel engineering challenges, requiring innovations for scale, performance, resilience, accuracy and ease of use. To meet these challenges I created new methods and tools for dealing with complex IT landscapes, resulting in three patents and co-authoring the book Eating the IT Elephant - Moving from Greenfield to Brownfield Development. As the CTO for IBM's European Public Sector services business I changed how solutions were designed and optimised, resulting in an unprecedented period of growth and a reduction in troubled projects. My track record for delivering and recovering projects led to me being appointed to the UK's National Audit Office Digital Advisory Panel. I also dedicate time to be a STEM Ambassador. I regularly present to Universities and the UK's National Cyber Security Centre's CyberFirst program on a range of topics including Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing and the Future of Technology. In my spare time, I keep up to date with technology by building open source robots using commodity hardware so that kids can copy my efforts.
