Bio

I am broadly interested in strategies for sustainable development that involve collaboration, cooperation, sharing, and planning. Implicit in this research agenda is that the roots of un-sustainable development and its associated socio-environmental crises are atomistic, individualistic, short-sighted, and exclusive decisions. I am trained as a scholar in urban planning and have a PhD in Regional Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, however my research involves collaboration across multiple disciplines. Specifically, my work explores how community movements like ecovillages and cohousing can serve as living experiments for sustainable urban development, how urban cycling in the USA benefits from ''social rides'' and recreational cycling, the challenges of transitioning toward servitized mobility (Mobility as a Service), and my most recent work has been on a multi-disciplinary team of scholars helping organizations measure, evaluate, and communicate about the Circular Economy. I am a proud multi-methodological researcher, taking advantage of qualitative and quantitative methods to explore interesting topics at different scales.
