Bio

• Extensive experiences in mass spectrometry (MS)-based protein higher order structure analysis, including fast photochemical oxidation of protein (FPOP), hydrogen deuterium exchange (HDX, manual and with LEAP automation system), covalent labeling (e.g., tetranitromethane, glycine ethyl ester), chemical cross-linking (XL), and radical footprinting with other reactive radical species (e.g., carbene diradical, trifluoromethyl radical). • Daily experience in operating, maintaining, optimizing, and troubleshooting various LC-MS/MS systems, including Thermo Q-Exactive Plus, Bruker Q-TOF (MaXis 4G, MaXis 4G HM, MaXis 4G ETD), Thermo Exactive Plus EMR, Thermo LTQ-FT, and Thermo LTQ-Orbitrap Velos. Familiar with Waters Synapt G2 and Bruker FT-ICR. • Skilled in both bottom-up (peptide mapping and label-free quantification) and top-down (native spray) MS on various protein systems, such as antigen/antibody, signaling proteins, membrane proteins, and protein aggregates. • Routine experience in analyzing diverse small molecules by LC-ESI-MS and LC-APCI-MS to support academic research. Familiar with polymer analysis with MALDI-TOF-MS. • Acquainted with spectroscopic methods for protein analysis, including circular dichroism, UV-Vis spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and general sample preparation methods such as gel electrophoresis, dialysis, and various spin columns. • Strong background in solid-state and solution NMR for chemical structure elucidation of polymer materials. Familiar with protein solid-state and solution NMR. • Established a protocol of FPOP in Gross Lab, including details of laser setup, instrument tuning, sample preparation, data analysis, and troubleshooting (published in Nature Protocols). • Collaborated extensively with academic laboratories in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics (Washington University School of Medicine), Department of Chemistry (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), and Department of Biology (WUSTL). • Actively engaged in scientific community, attending many international meetings, serving as peer reviewer for multiple journals, and being a guest editor for a method collection in Journal of Visualized Experiments. • Outstanding communication (verbal and written), organizational, and multi-tasking skills. Team-player with great adaptability to new environments. • Published 12 research articles. Serving as corresponding author in two articles, including a comprehensive review in Chemical Reviews and a detailed protocol in Nature Protocols.
