I'm a founding Director of Matter Architecture: an RIBA chartered practice based in East London. Established in 2016 with co-founder Jonathan McDowell, the practice has established a strong reputation for design excellence across a wide range of sectors and scales as well as for innovative research. I'm currently Interim Programme Lead for infrastructure at the Design Council, working to embed design thinking at the heart of a portfolio of national projects I have more than 20 years experience working as an Architect, an urban designer and as a public sector client. I've led design teams for major regeneration projects and I've set up and run many public, collaborative design workshops and delivered many different types and scale of buildings. I teach and research part-time at the University of East London and I'm a named researcher in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework submission (REF). In 2017 I led a project with the Ministry of Justice to improve prison design for wellbeing which won an RIBA President's award for research. I'm a Design Council CABE Built Environment Expert, a High Streets Task Force Expert, a member of several design review panels, and a member of the RIBA Planning Advisory Group. I'm also a keen long-distance cyclist when I can find the time.
