Bio

Data scientist trying to change the world one day at a time 🌳📈 When I was 9, I found out that the Sun will die - don't worry, it won't happen in some billion years from now! -, so I decided to become an Astronomer to save it. I spent over 10 years working as a researcher in academia before moving to industry, where now I work as a Data Scientist, focusing on sustainable solutions to save the Earth, instead🌍 Currently, I dedicate my career to technology for social impact and in my free time, I apply my skills to resonating causes, such as disaster management, renewable energies, sustainability and art. I have worked (and still do) in many roles, such as ML Engineer, Product Owner, Manager, Speaker and Lecturer together with local communities, universities, NGOs, startups and industry (see my portfolio - link below). My other great passion is empowering minorities into the world of AI and data science. In 2019, together with my friends, I founded the AI Wonder Girls team, with who I participated in these projects: - AI for Healthcare Hackathon (🏆AI Applied To Medical Imaging + 🏆NVIDIA Prizes) - MLOps for Good Hackathon (🏆1st Prize) - SAAI Factory - Art & AI Hackathon (🏆Especial Prize + display in 2 art exhibitions) - Alibaba Climate Change Hackathon - AWS Disaster Response Hackathon (🏆Honorable Mention Prize) - AWS Deep Learning Hackathon Feel free to connect if you... - want to discuss about how to make the world a better place - need help with your career (especially if you are a minority) - are looking for a tech speaker 📧 Contact: rosana.gomes.phd@gmail.com 📊 Portfolio: https://github.com/rogomes/portfolio/blob/master/README.md Key Competencies: • Innovative critical thinker, with insightful analytical skills acquired from research background and real world problems experience; having designed, implemented and delivered problem solving solutions for 5+ original scientific projects and managed 7+ Data Science projects; • Extensive technical skill set; with strong mathematics and programming background through developing models for problems in Astrophysics (Fortran) and AI/Data Science (Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow); • Skillful communicator, having performed spoken communication to a 700+ audience in 50+ international events (both scientific and non scientific); broad experience with written communication through 35+ peer reviewed published articles, conference proceedings, and reports; • Enthusiastic team player, having 10+ years of experience collaborating and managing multicultural teams, with members from 5 continents.
