I often remember my first day in the third grade, at my fourth school, in the third country, on the second continent that I gone to school in. As the other kids filed into class, chatting with each other, I stood outside the classroom, alone and milliseconds from tears. My new teacher noticed, asked two girls to make sure that I was included in the class. Many of us have had similar experiences but too often, we are not included, we don't feel that we belong, and we don't thrive. I am driven to seek solutions so we can all, while maintaining our authentic selves, thrive, belong, and be included in our work. I am committed to moving beyond conversations to actions that create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture in workplaces. As a CPA, Certified in Financial Forensics, and Certified Fraud Examiner, with a background in audit and financial forensics, I am all about metrics. I don't stop with a conversation; that is often just the beginning. I work to collaboratively create a plan, set measurable goals, and go about working to achieve those goals. I then seek to assess results, look at where we can improve, and continue the journey. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is not a one-off event, it is a continuous process that requires purposeful commitment. I have an insatiable drive to watch, listen, and learn and then, in turn, use this knowledge in order to come up with a better way to do things and to find ways for us all to authentically belong.
