Hello! I'm Sean Butcher and I love all things people and culture. But it took me a while to find this passion! After graduating in the worst global recession in a generation, I somewhat 'fell' into the world of SEO and digital marketing. It's an industry which has incredibly strong resilience to economic downturns and allowed me to put my writing skills to good use, having just graduated with a journalism degree. I spent the next 10 years working in SEO, moving up in seniority at various agencies, before I became Head of SEO at one of the UK's most well-known independents. Here I was responsible for growing a team - both in terms of numbers, but also in terms of skillset. We had huge ambitions to become the biggest and best SEO agency in the country, and I was given the responsibility of building the team from the ground up. But it was also here where things changed for me. Despite being a 'Head of SEO', I realised that I didn't have passion for SEO in the same way that I loved developing people. I was in a role where I got to see complete newbies getting into the industry and develop into confident experts, conference speakers, award winners, and this gave me a sense of satisfaction I never knew when 'doing' SEO. I decided that this was the direction I wanted to take my career long-term. As such, I spent time becoming qualified in HR, in coaching & mentoring, and consuming as many books on people development, psychology, productivity and business culture as I could. In a start-up which was doubling in size every year, I was gaining incredibly valuable hands on experience that has thrown every possible situation you can imagine at me. Much of my work was focused on professional and personal growth of employees. My work led to the win of the Best Learning & Development award at the UK Company Culture Awards, as well as being nominated for the Best L&D Initiative at the prestigious Personnel Today Awards. Fast-forward to 2022 and I decide that I can use my experience to help agencies and other small to medium sized businesses develop their people and culture offering. I started my own consultancy - Reflect - to do just that, and have since worked with organisations to form long-term people strategies, coached and trained their leaders to become more effective and confident in their roles, and developed processes which created fairness and clarity in what was a previously confusing situation. I'd love to help you on your journey to creating the culture your organisation needs to thrive. If you'd like to know more then it would be great to chat!
