My role at Washington University often consists of bridge-building between disparate communities. Chiefly, I teach current and next generation DNA/RNA analysis technologies to the pre-clinical and clinical community. Physicians have access to a resource which is growing more valuable with every passing month – patients. These physicians are eager to participate in correlative research, and I provide them the design and technical information to do so. However it is not just to physicians that I “translate technology”. I speak to bioinformaticians, basic scientists, students and even charitable donors who are interested in directly supporting research.
