Sonia Fernández has 20 years of experience leading Internet related businesses. As a partner at Kibo Ventures she focuses on identifying and investing in the most prominent start-ups in the Spanish ecosystem. She had previously worked as advisor in different Spanish startups and also as an angel investor herself. Prior to this role as investor and advisor Sonia was VINDICO Group’s General Manager for Europe (2011-2013) where she developed VINDICO’s video adserving business (UK, France, Germany and Spain). Prior to VINDICO, Sonia worked as a consultant for the ad network Specific Media and for Spanish Wifi startup Fon. Sonia has extensive experience in consumer Internet. She opened Match.com’s (world’s leading dating site) business in Spain being the country manager from 2003 to 2009 and having responsibility over Latam and Italy over the 2003 to 2006 period. Before joining Match.com, Sonia worked in the strategy group of Prisacom (Internet division of media group Prisa) and prior to that she was member of the founding team of MercadoLibre (Internet auction site), starting its operations in Spain in January 2000. Sonia’s background is in investment banking where she worked in the Corporate Finance group of Lehman Brothers in London and New York and she has also experience in private equity having worked at 3i in Spain. Sonia holds a BA in Business from ICADE (Spain) and an MBA from Stanford University. More recently Sonia completed a Masters in Artificial Intelligence. Sonia has published two books on networking and social networks in 2004 and 2011 “Dos Grados: Cultiva tu red de contactos” and “Dos Grados: Networking 3.0” and is currently Vice President of the Stanford Alumni Association in Spain and member of the International Women Forum and the Level20 organization. Sonia is very committed to mentoring programs. She is one of the founders of OurStemJourney, a mentoring platform to spark the interest of young women in STEM related careers. Sonia is married and has four children.
