“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” – Dennis Gabor During the last 30 years, I have had the privilege to work alongside some amazing technologists and futurists working to advance optical networking technologies, systems and architectures, with a focus on scalability and robustness for mission-critical networks. As we all continue to push the limits – with the exception of Shannon’s – today I’m focused on innovations that enable the world’s communication networks. Greater intelligence, software programmability, self-monitoring and correcting to deliver on the increased connectivity demands of 7 billion people across the globe. Philosophizing at the whiteboard is one of my favorite activities – what can we create next?! How can we make networks more effective, efficient and operate with higher intelligence through analytics and software? What’s the optimum infrastructure for these specific business objectives? It’s a puzzle waiting to be solved and I’m game. As we all approach Shannon’s Limit, it’s up to us to create the future.
