Tom is an Associate Director within WSP’s Intelligent Transport business and Chartered Geographer. A recognised leader with extensive experience providing strategic and technical advice on digital transformation, decarbonising transport and network operations to clients including National Highways, Transport Scotland and Local Authorities. Responsible for developing and advising on various national strategies and change programmes, Tom is highly experienced in leading and managing complex projects, including National Highways Digital Roads vision where he supported the client in developing an industry leading strategy for digital transformation of the strategic road network in the UK, becoming WSP’s Project of the Year in 2021. Delivering lasting change through his current role as Head of Connected Site for the SMP Alliance, Tom is building on the launch of the Digital Roads vision to deliver industry-wide transformation of highways construction, leveraging technology and connectivity to drive a step change in efficiency. His recent work on decarbonisation of transport and advisor role on the Net Zero Carbon plan for National Highways paved the way for the launch of his 2021 Global White Paper at the ITS World Congress. An active member of business and industry forums and steering groups, Tom is Thought Leadership Lead on the WSP ITS Technical Leadership Group, Vice Chair of ITS (UK) Smart Environment Forum and an Assessor on the RGS Professional Accreditation Panel.
