I love my job! It’s not everyone who has the chance to make a real difference to the way people and businesses work. Being in Tech allows me to do this. Not only do I get to work with some of the world’s leading IT companies providing training and speaking at their events around the world, but I have the wonderful job of working with people to improve their IT skills so that they don’t get so frustrated with their software and systems, and have real time information to make sound business decisions on. My bit of Tech – my specialism – is at the human end. The business bit, which is why we got involved with Business Central. It’s the ‘How do I use this?’, ‘What do I need to have?’, ‘Where’s the opportunity in this?’ bit. I used to do stuff like programming, installing hardware and cabling but as my industry has evolved so much in the 38 years I’ve been in it, I had to decide what I wanted to do the most which is working It is immensely rewarding to see the penny drop and know that you’ve made a difference to someone else’s world. But that is what tech does. Used correctly it helps real people in the real world to do what they do, better or quicker or more easily. The trouble is that people don’t know what they don’t know. That’s why our strapline is that we ‘Take the S.H. out of I.T.’ I’m also on a mission to help encourage girls and women to look at a career in Tech as the lack of gender diversity is a very real problem that needs addressing. So how do you know whether I’m any good other than meeting up for a coffee, or having a chat on the phone? Well, in 2015 I was very proud to be appointed to CompTIA's Board of Directors and to have been voted Woman of the Year 2016 by PCR, the UK trade magazine for the computer and IT industry as well as being voted one of the top 50 women in technology in their surveys for 2014, 2015. I have successfully completed large scale infrastructure projects, am a published author of IT industry standards and have appeared on TV, and founded Maximity in 2000.
