In 2016 I challenged myself to drive without money and in an electric car from the Netherlands to Australia. To make it to Sydney I relied on the energy of strangers. On my website, people could select their location and offer me a meal, place to sleep or electricity for the car. Thousands of strangers signed up and they helped me reach my goal after more than 3 years, driving 95,000km through 33 countries. In all the countries I interviewed sustainable initiatives to learn about the specific environmental challenges in those areas and to see innovative solutions to tackle the climate problem. This gave me a lot of insight into global sustainability. Besides making a point about sustainable mobility and promoting sustainable causes, I experienced a lot of human kindness, learned about cultures and I've overcome challenging situations that would drive most people nuts. Now I returned home I use my journey and experiences as a metaphor to talk about collaboration, human connection, sustainability and perseverance. I have spoken at Heineken, Volkswagen, Shell, Nordic EV Summit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, LinkedIn, Michelin, PWC, Dubai Expo 2020, Coca-Cola, Fully Charged Outside and more.
