I am a global citizen from Indonesia and have been living in Helsinki, Finland since 2010. I am the founder and CEO of Resistomap, a biotechnology company offers a complete laboratory and analysis service to monitor antibiotic resistance in the environment using a combination of molecular genetics method and data science. My passion is to fight antibiotic resistance issues especially in low- and middle-income countries. After more than ten years working on the environmental dimension of antibiotic resistance, I realised that the global monitoring of antibiotic resistance in the environment such as sewage, wastewater, river, lake, seawater, reservoir of drinking water, soil, manure and stool samples is important. Because the first step to preventing spread of antibiotic resistance is to identify, characterise and monitor hotspots of antibiotic resistance. Therefore, I moved from academia to entrepreneur life. Using my expertise on the know-how technology for antibiotic resistance monitoring, and together with the Resistomap team, our mission is to enable other researchers in universities, research institutes, water utility, hospitals, primary food productions, and antibiotic manufacturers to monitor antibiotic resistance in the environment fast, efficient and comprehensive. Our vision is the global monitoring of antibiotic resistance in the environment! We are now developing a digital platform for antibiotic resistance monitoring in wastewater which can be used as an early warning system to detect impending outbreaks of resistant bacteria, especially in hospitals. I am always interested in science communication. It is important to make a bigger impact of science and research!
