I have always tried to learn from experience, improve every aspect of my work and find practical solutions, independently whether I was working as a community pharmacist or as a pharmacovigilance (PV) expert. As a pharmacist I've introduced patient counselling in my everyday practice and as a PV expert I've implemented changes within my department that have also affected external practices. Internally, I've updated several standardized operating procedures and aligned them with real practice, wrote practical instructions for the assessors and encouraged regular exchange of the information between assessors. My efforts and knowledge were recognized through appointment in HALMED’s committees and by giving me opportunity to mentor several junior colleagues. I've authored Croatian guidelines for the approval of additional Risk Minimisation Measures (aRMMs) and Dear Doctor Letters (DHPC) published on HALMED’s website. I've also authored dedicated section about PSURs. As a Head of the PV Dept, I've introduced twice a year 1-on-1 short interviews and regular feedback. The purpose of the interviews is to enable and encourage two-way communication, to understand their needs, hear their views and proposals for improvements and further training. All of this is needed to be able to integrate their knowledge, expertise and abilities in order to achieve HALMED’s and Department’s goals. As the Croatian Alternate Member in the European Medicines Agency’s Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC), each month, I evaluate latest safety issues with professionals of different backgrounds, analyze pharmacovigilance signals and assess benefit-risk ratio of medicines using scientific evidence to form specific recommendations.
