I always knew that business would be a big part of my life, as I started my first enterprise at seven years old. Inside the building where I lived as a child, there were benches that had smooth decorative rocks underneath them. I gathered several of them and enlisted the help of my best friend and neighbor Robert, another seven-year-old with aspirations of making it big. We had a two-person operation: he colored the rocks with crayons he borrowed from another friend, while I was in charge of sales. I stopped passing cars to sell them these rocks that had been so beautifully colored. We sold each rock for 25 cents and made $19.25 that week, but more important than the money were the lessons I learned about business and the value of owning my own company (whether it was registered or not).
