Andy is the Head of Ecosystem for Sub-Saharan Africa at Google, leading a pan-African team focused on ensuring Google is the platform of choice for developers and startups across Africa through scalable, high-impact programs that reach across the continent. He has been a crypto investor since 2013, most recently engaged with DAOs and NFT projects which create lasting value across their communities, and the platforms that support them. He has also invested in a range of early-stage crypto projects, including Bitwage, Kotani Pay, Nestvoin, SyndicateDAO, and Swan Bitcoin. Andy is also an active investor and mentor to early-stage startups in emerging markets and disruptive technology sectors, having made over 50 early-stage angel investments, is a Limited Partner with the venture capital funds Microtraction, Future Africa, and Weekend Fund, and is a graduate of the Venture Capital Executive Program at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. Before joining Google, Andy was the VP of Apps & Developer Relations for Mxit, the groundbreaking African mobile messaging platform and social network. Over the course of his career he’s led the creation of new standards (Media RSS / mRSS), groundbreaking research (Google's Africa Developer Ecosystem and e-Conomy Africa reports) new patented technologies (5 media and search technology patents), new startups (including Live365, which became the 2nd-largest online radio network worldwide through pure viral growth), sand countless technology experiments.
