Bio

I am president and CEO of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™, the trade association for over 1500 of the most innovative American companies. CTA owns and produces CES®, the world's most influential innovation event. CTA and CES lead, inspire, and influence the tech industry and tech policy governing American businesses today. In 2021, I was awarded the Légion d'Honneur (Legion of Honor) by French President Emmanuel Macron. I recently was named a tech titan and most influential person in tech and policy by the Washingtonian, named a top lobbyist by The Hill, received top exhibition industry awards, and named Executive of the Year by Association TRENDS. I am proud to have led CTA as it has received multiple awards including being named one of the best places to work by The Washington Post, Virginia Business, and the Center of Urban Transportation Research, and having the greenest exhibition by Trade Show Executive. I have written three books, The Comeback: How Innovation will Restore the American Dream (Beaufort, 2011) and Ninja Innovation: The Ten Killer Strategies of the World’s Most Successful Businesses (Harper Collins, 2013) being New York Times Bestsellers. I also wrote Ninja Future: Secrets to Success in the New World of Innovation (William Morrow, 2018), a USA Today Bestseller. I proudly discuss the importance of innovation in the U.S. economy through these books, tv appearances, and over 1200 published editorials. I also speak and write about trends, business and technology issues, policy, and leadership. I helped unleash home theater, HDTV, and commercial use of the Internet. I am now advocating for self-driving vehicles, AI, health technology, cutting the deficit, and bipartisanship. I cautioned publicly about China’s ascendance, the risk of a pandemic, worker shortages, inflation, and the likelihood of an impending recession. I serve as a member of the CTA Executive Board, NAM Board of Directors of the Council of Manufacturing Associations, the Board of the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Technology Council, and the Trade Show Executive Editorial Board. I have served on several boards including George Mason University, the Washington Economic Club and GWSAE. I have served at CTA for over 35 years. I was an associate at the law firm of Squire Sanders and served as an assistant to a member of Congress. I earned my law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and am a Phi Beta Kappa graduate majoring in economics and psychology from Binghamton University.
