Bio

Through highly interactive keynote presentations and workshops onsite and online, I help people successfully develop opportunities; we work together on training-teaching-learning, community collaborations, and other creative endeavors. I tell stories designed to engage learners and those involved in community collaborations. I listen to others so I can help them hear and act upon the meaningful things they are saying. I write to document and inspire success in learning and collaborative efforts and to explore innovations in lifelong learning. I believe that when we seamlessly combine work and play, we are capable of producing magnificent acts of transformation. Career highlights: •Author, ''Change the World Using Social Media'' (Rowman & Littlefield, 2021; https://rowman.com/ISBN/9781538114414/Change-the-World-Using-Social-Media) and co-author, with Lori Reed, ''Workplace Learning & Leadership: A Handbook for Library and Nonprofit Trainers'' (ALA Editions, 2011) •Helped create, nurture, and sustain the partnerships that produced the Hidden Garden Steps project (http://hiddengardensteps.wordpress.com)--a set of ceramic-tiled steps and accompanying gardens on City-County property in San Francisco •Helped create and manage a mentoring program for students currently working on the UCLA Daily Bruin and establish professional development opportunities (including workshops) for staff at the publication •Helped revitalize a training-teaching-learning program for the 850 employees in the multi-facility San Francisco Public Library system while serving as Director, Volunteer Services and Staff Training for the San Francisco Public Library system •Active involvement in Association for Talent Development (ATD; formerly ASTD, the American Society for Training & Development), where I served as an advisor on the National Advisors for Chapters and helped rebuild a chapter on the verge of collapse •Storyteller-in-Residence, ShapingEDU, July 2020-February 2023 •Facilitate dynamic, interactive presentations onsite and online at conferences and in other venues •More than 30 years of writing and editing
